Stephan K. Bayens is an Assistant Polk County Attorney in Des Moines, Iowa, where he has specialized in drug and gang prosecution for the preceding six years. Prior thereto, he was an Assistant Attorney General assigned to the Special Litigation Division of the Iowa Attorney General’s Office, and was an Attorney Clerk for the Honorable Michael J. Streit of the Iowa Court of Appeals. His publications include The Search and Seizure of Computers: Are We Sacrificing Personal Privacy for the Advancement of Technology?, 48 Drake Law Review 239 (2000) reprinted in 27 Search & Seizure Law Reports 49 (2000).
Additionally, Mr. Bayens has spoken extensively on issues related to search and seizure, the successful prosecution, and investigation of gang and drug-related cases, and the use of technology in criminal investigations.
He is a 1996 graduate of Central College in Pella, Iowa, and a 1999 high honors graduate of Drake University Law School in Des Moines, Iowa.

Peter P. Pochowski
Executive Director
National Association of School Safety
and Law Enforcement Officers (NASSLEO)
Peter Pochowski was the Director of the Division of Safety and Security for the Milwaukee Public Schools from 1999 to 2008. Prior to that, he served with the Milwaukee Police Department for 26 years.
He received the 1997 Milwaukee Mayor’s Innovation Award for the anti-graffiti program he developed for the City of Milwaukee Police Department. In 2003, he received national recognition when he was presented Security Magazine’s Best Practices Award for the successful safety programs implemented in the Milwaukee Public Schools.
In 2005, he was asked to testify regarding school security issues at the hearings of the United States Department of Education Advisory Committee in Washington D.C. In 2006, he was invited to attend the White House Conference on School Safety. Peter was elected to the Wisconsin School Safety Coordinator’s Association (WSSCA) Board of Directors in 2005, and was elected as Second Vice-President in 2008.
He was elected to the Board of Directors of NASSLEO in 2000, and he served until January 2008 when he assumed the full-time duties of Executive Director.

Hour 2: Introduction to Gangs. A walk through the history of gangs, and why they have staying power
Hour 3: Gangs in the School House: The Growing Threat. See how gangs are changing the American way of life--from within the schools
Hour 4: Mitigation/Prevention Measures to Address School Gangs. Steps, policies, and measures available to administrators and law enforcement
Noon thru 1:00 p.m.: Lunch
Hour 5: Electronic Devices and the Hi-Tech Disruption to Education. Cell phones are creating havoc in our schools, and it will only get worse
Hour 6: Security for Extra-Curricular Activities. The responsibility for school security does not end when the school day ends
Hour 7: Wrap-Up/Questions & Answers/Evaluations
